Cómo hacer las mejores AREPAS del MUNDO y con que rellenarla? Solo Necesitas 10 minutos!

Las Arepas estan en el ADN del Venezolano, típicas para desayunar o cenar las arepas se dieron a conocer en todo el mundo gracias al gran movimiento migratorio desde el 2003 que vive Venezuela. Las llamadas “areperas” ya son habituales verlas establecidades en locales o foodtruck especialmente en paises como Inglaterra, Estados Unidos, España o Australia.

Se cocina tradicionalmente en un plancha de acero “budare”, aunque tambien es común cocinarla en aceite caliente o al horno. El principal atractivo de las areperas, es la gran varidad de rellenos con la que se pueden comer.

En el año 2014 la Arepa, ocupó el primer puesto en el ranking de los mejores desayunos del mundo, hecho por el famoso blog Thrillist, una página web especializado en viajes, comidas y bebidas internacionales.

Receta de las Arepas
La receta se basa en su principal ingrediente que es la harina de maiz, un toque de sal, mantequilla y agua, aunque es común que agregar a la mezcla ante de cocinarla queso, zanahoria, coco, quinoa o cualquier otro ingrediente.


2 tazas de agua
1 cucharada de mantequilla ** margarina
1 unidad de huevo
3 tazas de harina precocidad de maíz blanco (harina PAN)
1 cucharadita de Sal

  1. En un tazón mezcle el agua con la sal y el aceite / mantequilla.
  2. Añade poco a poco la harina precocida de maíz, se recomienda utilizar la marca de harina PAN, es la mejor para hacer arepas. Mezclar bien hasta crear una masa suave y uniforme, aproximadamente 5 minutos. No es necesario amasar.
  3. Dejar reposar la mezcla de las arepas por 3 minutos.
  4. Dividir la masa en porciones y redondear (hacer pelotas de harina) . Luego, con las palmas de las manos dar forma circular, presionando y girando. El tamaño aproximado de las arepas es de 12 cm de diámetro con un espesor de 0.8 a 1 cm.
  5. Para cocinar las arepas, colócalas en una plancha hasta que estén doradas y tostadas por ambos lados.
Rellenos para las Arepas
  1. Reina pepiada: es tal vez la arepa más famosa en venezuela es de aguacate, ensalada de gallina y mayonesa.
  2. La Pelúa: es una arepa rellena con carne mechada (carne previamente deshenebrada y guisada) con queso amarillo rallado
  3. La Catira: muy parecida a la “arepa pelúa” pero se cambia la carne mechada por pollo mechado y guisado, tiene también queso amarillo rallado
  4. La Sifrina: la palabra sifrina es lo que en España seria la “pija”, asi se refiere a las chicas que son muy sobradas o “nariz levantada”. Ya continuando con los rellenos de las arepas, la sifrina es la misma Reina pepiada pero se le agrega queso amarillo rallado.
  5. La Dominó: seguramente ya se la imaginan, es una arepa rellena de caraotas o Frijoles con queso blanco rallado.
  6. La Rumbera: es una de las mejores arepas que hay, tiene de relleno pernil de cerdo horneado con queso amarillo rallado.
  7. La Rompe colchón: es una arepa es muy tradicional en la costa venezolana, tiene una mezcla de mariscos (camarón, pulpo, pepitonas, ostras y calamares), y se le llama rompe colchón por sus propiedades afrodisiacas
  8. De pabellón Criollo: es una de las arepas “más rellenas” de Venezuela, tiene frijoles negros (caraotas), carne mechada, tajadas y con queso blanco rallado. En la zona costera se cambia la carne por pescado.

Curiosidades de las Arepas

– La arepa, es comida más popular en Venezuela. Se consume tanto en el desayuno como en la cena.

– Una arepa de 493,200 kilogramos de harina pan, hecha en Venezuela tiene actualmente el record Guineess como la arepa más grande el mundo. El record fue posible gracias Empresas Polar, compañía que produce la harina PAN.

– La arepa más popular de todas, se llama Reina Pepiada y fue creada en honor a una Miss Mundo venezolana llamada Susana Duim. Su Relleno es a base de aguacate, pollo y mayonesa.

– TostiArepa, lanzado en el año 1997, es el electrodoméstico ideal para hacer arepas, tarda 7 minutos en cocinar. Una buena inversión.
